Passenger Vehicle Transportation

Passenger Vehicle Transportation(PVT) PVT is an MVC initiative being implemented to provide a clearer picture to the public and law enforcement of the businesses or entities that use motor vehicles (buses) that carry passengers as part of their daily activities which are considered non-traditional passenger vehicles. Traditional PVT vehicles include commercial buses, school buses, taxicabs and limousines. To identify non-traditional PVT vehicles, the MVC will be issuing specialized license plates which denote the type of service the vehicle provides. These vehicles are ambulances, hotel buses, jitneys, mobility assistance vehicles, paratransit vehicles and taxicabs.

Start Date Starting July 1, 2014, the MVC will begin a twelve (12) month rollout of the PVT Initiative. At the time of the registration renewal, each owner of a PVT vehicle will be required to change over to the new plates. All PVT vehicles being initially registered will be issued the new plates at a Motor Vehicle Agency. All PVT vehicles will be required to be plated with the new plates correctly by July 1, 2015.

Important Things to Know PVT Vehicles will be required to be inspected annually for emissions and safety at either a private inspection facility or inspection station. There are no change to insurance coverage. PVT Vehicles will be plated according to the service they provide.
