Revising the COSLA Strategic Migration Partnership Policy Toolkit Katy MacMillan, ODS Consulting

Our role  ODS appointed to:  Evaluate the existing toolkit  Evaluate the engagement work COSLA is undertaking  Produce a new toolkit – involving local authorities and others as partners

About this session  Feeding back findings of evaluation of existing toolkit – which is complete  Informing development of the new toolkit  exploring what guidance is needed around migration  gauging interest in staying involved in development of the revised guidance

The existing Toolkit  Published in 2010 (updated 2011)  to develop a strategic local response to migration  Three main sections  understanding demographic challenges locally  building the evidence base around population  developing a migration strategy – with short sections on aspects such as citizenship, cohesion or education

Use of the Toolkit  Useful, but...  need for clearer language  more concise and modular  demand for online links  more case studies and innovative approaches  more on joint working  more regular updates

Your views – world cafe style  Theme 1: What should be included in the guidance?  Theme 2: What has worked well?  Theme 3: What challenges do we face?  Theme 4: Top five tips for attracting people to your area  Theme 5: Ideas for how to engage, involve and talk with migrants in your area

How it works  Choose a group you want to start in  There will be four 15 minute slots – with an alert every 15 minutes  Choose to stay where you are, or move on  A facilitator in each group will recap on the previous discussions – build on discussion to date

Next steps  Include your ideas in the draft toolkit  Draft toolkit by early May and final by June 2015  Keen to pilot, test, involve  Please sign up with Lyle from ODS as you leave, if you are interested  Or
