Extended Metaphor: Comparison that does not use “like” or “as” in a stanza, paragraph, or entire collection
Rhyme Scheme: The pattern of end rhymes in a stanza or poem Example: Roses are red,A Violets are blue,B Sugar is sweet,C And so are you.B The lines labeled “B” rhyme together
Lyrical Poetry: Short musical poem that expresses thoughts and feelings
Repetition: Words or phrases that are said again to make an idea clearer
Rhyme: Words or lines that have an end sound that corresponds to another line
Speaker: The voice in a literary work that communicates with the reader
Tone: Author’s attitude towards the subject
Rhythm: The pattern of beats created by stressed and unstressed syllables
