Presentation transcript:

My Ka Hikitia Goal To make accurate assessments and to provide formative feedback that promotes learning.

Assessments are based on students E-astle results, our writing benchmarks, The Literacy Progressions and on-going assessments of students writing through conferencing and observations. The students have individual writing goals based on the above, discussed with them and changed regularly as they are met and new goals identified. The students use these goals as they write and conference with me or a buddy on them at the end of a writing session. The class writing WALT is in addition to this. Feedback is given specifically on these goals, leading to more focussed and specific feedback and a clearer understanding of what they have done well/need to work on. Feedback is written at least once a week and verbal. Students share their work at the conclusion of sessions and successful features of writing are celebrated. Student draft writing is displayed and shared to provide models of different goals and ways of achieving them.

Students are able to assess their own and peers work confidently. Students can help work out their own next goal when conferencing with the teacher or a buddy. Students are clear about what they need to do next and why. Students have pride in their achievement and an enthusiasm to continue learning.
