Luella Elementary’s Word of the Week For September 15 – 19, 2014

Explain To explain something is to define it, show how it works, or just tell what it is.

Explaining helps people understand.

If you know football really well, then you could probably explain the rules of the game. Explaining makes things clearer. Have you ever had to explain how to play a game?

Explaining is telling how something works. Explaining can help someone "get it" — whatever "it" is. Have you ever had to explain a math problem to a friend that is having trouble? Have you ever had to explain how you came up with your answer?

Did you know that the word explain appears on average every 30 pages in a book? Remember explain means to show or tell how something works.

The Word of the Week has been explain. You may also have seen or said Explaining, Explained, and Explanation.
