Church Multiplication

Church Multiplication Why?

Church Multiplication Biblical Insight Genesis 1 – First command given to newly created people (Multiply) Genesis 1:27-28 – “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it”.

Church Multiplication Biblical Insight The Process The Fall The Plan

Church Multiplication Biblical Insight God's first command to His newly created people was to multiply His first command to recreated, "born-again" believers is the same

Church Multiplication Biblical Insight When Jesus first called men to follow Him, it was a call to spiritual multiplication (Luke 5:10) His last command  to believers was to multiply spiritually (Acts 1:8) His first command to these men was to multiply spiritually. If they followed Him, He would make them "fishers of men." They would reproduce as they "fished" spiritually for other men and women. The last message of Jesus to His followers was a call to spiritual reproduction: But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight. (Acts 1:8-9)

Church Multiplication The Call to Action : Who? The men Jesus first called as disciples were fishermen - They were men of action The call of Jesus is still the same (We are to become fishers of men. If we are not fishing, then we are not following ) They did not catch fish one at a time. They used big nets to fish and brought in many fish of all kinds. When Jesus called them to be "fishers of men," He revealed a similar plan for spiritual multiplication. His followers were to "catch" men and women from every nation, culture, language, and ethnic background. Their spiritual "nets" were to be filled. Jesus called men to action. He said He would make them become fishers of men. They would not just be spectators in God's plan. They would be participators as they fished for the eternal souls of men and women.

Church Multiplication Fishers of Men : Why? First - it was an example easily understood These men made their living by fishing It was the thing to which they devoted their time and energy they understood that they would "catch" men spiritually, just as they had caught fish in the natural world They also understood the demands of this call. Spiritual fishing would require a commitment of their time and energy

Church Multiplication Fishers of Men : Why? Second - Jesus used the example of fishing to call followers because there are principles of natural fishing which can be applied spiritually

Church Multiplication Fishing Principles : What? YOU MUST GO WHERE THE FISH ARE YOU MUST ANALYZE THE ENVIRONMENT YOU SHOULD USE DIFFERENT METHODS YOU MUST CAST OUT AND REEL IN TIMING IS IMPORTANT YOU MUST BE PATIENT

Church Multiplication Factors Affecting Church Growth LACK OF SPIRITUAL FOOD LACK OF VISION SHALLOW GROWTH LACK OF PRUNING FAILURE TO IDENTIFY RESPONSIVE AREAS WRONG PRIORITIES MINISTRY NOT RELATED TO THE PEOPLE "COME AND SEE" RATHER THAN "GO AND TELL.” UNCONFESSED SIN UNRESOLVED PERSONAL PROBLEMS UNQUALIFIED SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP RESISTANCE TO CHANGE COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS CULTURAL, GEOGRAPHIC, DENOMINATIONAL SEPARATION

Church Multiplication Factors Affecting Church Growth SPECTATORS INSTEAD OF PARTICIPATORS CONVERTS DO NOT BECOME DISCIPLES FEAR EMPHASIS ON WORK RATHER THAN WORSHIP SAVING SOCIETY INSTEAD OF SAVING SOULS UNBELIEF QUANTITY RATHER THAN QUALITY INDIVIDUALS ARE LOST IN THE CROWD CHURCH CLIQUES THE ORGANIZATION IS ALIVE, THE ORGANISM IS DYING ABSENCE OF LOVE LACK OF RESOURCES

THE SPIRITUAL MULTIPLICATION PROCESS Key Verse: 2 Timothy 2:2 “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

THE SPIRITUAL MULTIPLICATION PROCESS Essential Ingredients necessary for a movement to take place. Activities used in order to see the movement take place. The ingredients reflect the philosophy behind the activities.

THE SPIRITUAL MULTIPLICATION PROCESS Seven Essential Ingredients Necessary to Build a Movement A common goal: The Great Commission. A common strategy: expose, win, build, train, and send. A common method: initiative evangelism and spiritual multiplication. Common tools and materials. A common power: the Holy Spirit. Increasing commitment to the goal (by developing personal convictions). Critical Mass: the amount of committed people needed to pursue it’s goals.
