Every year, the children in Turkey celebrate this "Sovereignty and Children's Day" as a national holiday. Schools participate in week-long ceremonies marked by performances in all fields in large stadiums watched by the entire nation. The President, the Prime Minister, the Cabinet Ministers, provincial governors all turn over their positions to children's representatives.

May 19th - Atatürk Commemoration and Youth and Sports Day Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day (Ataturk Anma, Genclik ve Spor Bayramı) on May 19 in Turkey is dedicated to the youth. This day is also a day of commemoration of Kemal Ataturk, the "Father of Turkey".
