Civil War-A Nation Divided States Rights Social-North states vs. South states Political-small states wanted popular sovereignty and independence; feared balance of power in government Economic-South had slave labor; people forced to work to earn a living Culture-Many Southerners way of life mainly consisted of farming and working plantations Federal Rights Social- North states vs. South states Political- a central government for all; feared balance of power in government Economic-North had free labor; people choosing to work to earn a living Culture-Many Northerners way of life mainly consisted of agriculture and industry.
