Deborah Sampson

Early life!!!!!!!! Deborah was born on December 17,1760. Deborah was born on December 17,1760. Plimpton Massachusetts Plimpton Massachusetts Oldest of six kids Oldest of six kids

Deborah’s father drowned in a shipwreck. His death resulted in the family splitting up in several different homes.  In 1770 Deborah ended up as an indentured servant.  At the age 18 she took a position as a school teacher.

Deborah Sampson Brave women fought in the revolutionary war. Pretended to be a man to fight in the war. Enlisted under her deceased brother name Robert Shurtliff.

C hildhood Parents was Jonathan, and Deborah Bradford Samson She was the oldest of six children

Deborah later on in life got married to Benjamin Gannett. Benjamin was a farmer from Sharon, Massachusetts They had 3 children

Brave Deborah was a brave young lady. She served 17 months as Robert Shurliff at west point She was injured and discharged honorable

Family of her own The marriage was for the most part cursed with poverty, but blessed with three fine children. Son Earl became a Captain in the Militia and a successful business man; daughter Mary married Judson Gilbert and daughter Patience married Seth Gay. Early in their marriage, in spite of their own lack of material things, Deborah and Benjamin adopted an orphan, Susanna Baker Shepard, Deborah no doubt recalling her own unfortunate childhood.
