The lion dance

It was Chinese New Year.

“The nien is coming,” said the children. “It has big teeth and big claws.”

“It lilkes eating babies. It likes eating grandmothers. It likes eating children best.” It likes eating children best.”

The fox was very brave. He chased the nien into the forest. But the fox did not come back. The nien came back.

The tiger was very brave. He chased the nien into the forest. But the tiger did not come back. The nien came back.

The lion was very brave. He chased the nien into the forest. The nien did not come back. But, the lion did come back.

The people were very happy. They had a big Chinese New Year party.

But, the next Chinese New Year, the nien came back.

But, the lion was too busy.

The people made a paper lion. The paper lion was very brave. It chased the nien into the forest. The nien did not come back.

It never came back again. But, the paper lion did come back. So, Chinese people have a lion dance every Chinese New Year.
