Brave New World Reading Preparation Get Ready for a Crazy New World

Warm-Up (top left)  Choose two prompts with which to AGREE/DISAGREE.  Write 1-2 sentences explaining why.

Prompt Choices  True happiness is never attainable.  It is wrong to control the physical and intellectual characteristics of humans before they are born.  Science and technology can help make the world a happier place.  Life would be better if everyone could legally take as many “Happy Pills” as they wanted, whenever they wanted, to be happy.  Sexuality is a personal choice that should not be influenced by other individuals or the community.  People who are mentally strong can never be brainwashed.  Family is not important or necessary in society if everyone helps each other out when needed.

Cool-Down (bottom left)  Make a T-Chart.  Label the chart “Happy Things” and “Happy Choices”.  Brainstorm objects, events, and other things that make you happy for the “Happy Things” column.  Brainstorm choices that a person can make that will make him/her happy in the “Happy Choices” column.  Draw lines between the things and choices that match.
