Brave New World Reading Preparation Get Ready for a Crazy New World
Warm-Up (top left) Choose two prompts with which to AGREE/DISAGREE. Write 1-2 sentences explaining why.
Prompt Choices True happiness is never attainable. It is wrong to control the physical and intellectual characteristics of humans before they are born. Science and technology can help make the world a happier place. Life would be better if everyone could legally take as many “Happy Pills” as they wanted, whenever they wanted, to be happy. Sexuality is a personal choice that should not be influenced by other individuals or the community. People who are mentally strong can never be brainwashed. Family is not important or necessary in society if everyone helps each other out when needed.
Cool-Down (bottom left) Make a T-Chart. Label the chart “Happy Things” and “Happy Choices”. Brainstorm objects, events, and other things that make you happy for the “Happy Things” column. Brainstorm choices that a person can make that will make him/her happy in the “Happy Choices” column. Draw lines between the things and choices that match.
