 What is segregation?  What is the Civil Rights Movement?  How has the role of a Civil Rights leader affected the lives of Americans today?

What makes each of us different?

What is the purpose of the fence?

Have you ever felt like something was wrong and you knew something had to be done to fix it? What did you do about it?

Imagine…a law that said some people could not drink out of a drinking fountain, or get served at a restaurant.

There were some brave people who wanted to change how African Americans were being treated. They decided to work towards changing the world around them. They start a movement…the Civil Rights Movement.

On May 17, 1954, the Supreme Court issued a decision in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, declaring that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."
