Bratislava
Once upon a time the country’s boundary was to the west of the town of Bratislava.
The castle of Bratislava is on the bank of the River Danube.
In the past they had to protect it against the Germans. So there was a stone wall around it, which made attacks more difficult.
Emperor Henry III tried to conquer the castle several times. Once he surrounded it with ships while he was attacking it by land.
A young man called Zotmund once came to the lord of the castle. His friends only called him ‘Kund, the diver’. He offered his help to the lord.
His plan was to swim under the ships of the Germans and to make a hole on them so that they would sink.
Not many could swim at the time, even less could dive. But Zotmund was very clever and brave. His plan was successful and Bratislava won the battle.
Nowadays Zotmund is known as ‘Kund, the clever and brave diver’.
