Japan Day by Miss Brandt’s Class

The high school students came for Japan Day on Friday. At one station we did origami. We could make penguins, fish, or dogs.

We did calligraphy at one station. We wrote numbers.

We watched a short video about volcanoes at another station. We each made a volcano. We poured vinegar in our volcanoes and they erupted.

We played Hai in the library. Hai means Bingo in Japan. We sang Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes in Japanese.

We did Judo at one station. We did a leg swipe to a partner. We also had a kicking contest. There was a Judo champion.

We did a puppet show. We dressed up and acted like puppets. The story was about a peachling. The peachling became strong and brave.

At one station we watched a video about people doing a play. They had really cool face paintings. Then we got our faces painted.

We had a tea ceremony. We ate cookies and drank iced tea or water.

We used chopsticks at one station. We ate rice, chicken, fruit loops, marshmallows, and jelly beans.

We did Sumo wrestling. We stomped our feet, slapped our legs, and counted to three in Japanese. There were Sumo champs.

We played outside with the high school students. We played kickball, four square, and Duck, Duck, Goose. Japan Day was really fun! Arigato, Mrs. Weaver and high schoolers!
