Presentation transcript:

SSigns are defined by their function and are broken into three major groups: RRegulatory Signs give notice of traffic laws or regulations. WWarning Signs give notice of a situation that might not be readily apparent. GGuide signs show route designations, destinations, directions, distances, services, points of interest, and other geographical, recreational, or cultural information.

 This type of signs regulates or controls the movement of traffic.  REGULATORY SIGNS ARE: RED & WHITE WHITE & BLACK GREEN ON WHITE  MOST REGULATORY SIGNS ARE VERTICAL RECTANGLES

SSTOP SIGN  Y YIELD SIGN WWRONG WAY

 SPEED LIMIT SIGNS

SSPECIAL PARKING SIGNS OR SEAT BELT LAWS

WWarning road signs give notice of a situation that might not be readily apparent. Warning road signs typically have a yellow background color but the background color can also be orange or fluorescent- pink, or YELLOW-GREEN depending on the situation. EEXAMPLES OF WARNING ROAD SIGNS:

INTERSECTIONS : CHANGES IN WIDTH:

 TRAFFIC:  CROSSINGS:

 CONDITIONS:  CURVES:

 CONSTRUCTION SIGNS:

 SLOW MOVING SIGN:  NO PASSING SIGN:  RAILROAD CROSSING SIGN

 fluorescent-pink

GGuide signs are essential to guide drivers along streets and highways, to inform them of interesting routes, to direct them to cities, towns, villages, or other important destinations, to identify nearby rivers and streams, parks, forests, and historical sites, and generally to give such information as will help them along their way in the most simple, direct manner possible.

How the Interstates are Numbered  The Interstate Highway numbering system was established in The Interstate route marker is the familiar red, white, and blue shield with the word “Interstate,” the state name, and the route number.

 Routes running north and south have odd numbers, such as I-29. The lowest numbers are in the west, such as I-5 along the west coast. The highest numbers are in the east, such as I-95.

 East and west routes have even numbers. The lowest numbers are in the south, such as I-10 along the southern border. The higher numbers are in the north, such as I-94 along the northern border.

 THE U.S. HIGHWAY SYSTEM IS NUMBER JUST LIKE THE INTERSTATE SYSTEM. EVEN NUMBERED ROADS GO EAST AND WEST. ODD NUMBERED ROADS GO NORTH AND SOUTH.

SSTATE ROUTES ARE NUMBER THE SAME WAY.

Destination and mileage signs

TTHESE SIGNS TELL YOU WHERE YOU ARE, WHICH LANE TO GET YOUR DESTINATION, WHAT EXIT TO TAKE, WHAT EXIT ARE COMING UP, AND HOW FAR AWAY THE EXITS ARE. TTHE MILEAGE MARKERS INFORM YOU HOW FAR YOU ARE FROM A DIFFERENT PLACE.

RROADSIDE SERVICES:  FUEL HOSPITAL TELE  LODGING PHONE

 RECREATIONAL AREAS:

 INTERNATIONAL ROAD SIGNS:  NO LEFT NO PARKING NO “U” TURN TURN

YYELLOW LINES ARE USED TO SEPARATE TRAFFIC TRAVELING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS, THE LEFT EDGE OF MULTIPLE-LANES, DIVIDED HIGHWAYS SEPARATING TRAFFIC GOING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. DOUBLE YELLOW LINE MEANS? NO PASSING IS ALLOWED

AA SINGLE, BROKEN YELLOW LINE MEANS? PASSING IS PERMITTED ON BOTH SIDE OF TRAFFIC

 A broken yellow line (on your side) to the left of a solid yellow line means?  Passing on your side is permitted when it is safe to do so.

 A LEFT TURN CENTER LANE. VEHICLE MOVING IN EITHER DIRECTION CAN USE THIS LANE TO MAKE LEFT TURNS OFF THE ROADWAY INTO AN ENTRANCE.

RRULES FOR USING THE CENTER LEFT TURN LANE: 1.DON’T GET INTO THE LANE TOO SOON. 2.WATCH FOR VEHICLES PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAYS AND CROSS STREETS. 3.USE THE SHARED LEFT TURN LANE ONLY TO TURN LEFT.

WWHITE LINE ON THE PAVEMENT INDICATES THE RIGHT EDGE OF THE LANE. RRIGHT EDGE

 STOP LINE: STOP BEHIND THE STOP LINE

CCROSS WALK INTERSECTIONS: SSTOP HERE BEFORE ENTERING THE CROSSWALK.

CCURBLINE: IF THERE ARE NO IDENTIFYING PAVEMENT MARKINGS AND THE SIGN OR TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE SAYS STOP, THEN YOU MUST STOP WITH THE FRONT OF YOUR VEHICLE BEHIND THE IMAGINARY LINE.  CURBLINE WWHICH CAR STOP CORRECTLY? B

RRED : STOP YYELLOW : DO NOT ENTER THE INTERSECTION GGREEN : GO (WHEN SAFE TO DO SO)

 ADDITIONALTRAFFIC SIGNALS: RED YELLOW GREEN LEFT TURN SIGNAL

 RED FLASHING LIGHT  MEANS THE SAME AS A STOP SIGN

 FLASHING YELLOW LIGHT  MEANS THE SAME AS A YIELD SIGN.
