Property Safe  Don’t keep your possessions out on display.  Make sure you have logged your mobile phone and MPC/personal stereo on immobilise.com – or call them to register it on:  Record your IMEI number using *#06#.  Don’t use your phone in public unless you have to.  Set your phone to vibrate or silent – don’t advertise it!  Check who’s hanging around before you use a cashpoint.  Don’t carry an unreasonable amount of money.  Keep your keys in a pocket, and don’t keep them next to something with your address on.

Travelling Safe  Plan your route before you travel. Look at to help you plan your journey.  Tell someone what route you will be taking.  Tell someone what time you are due back home.  Make sure you have cash or a mobile phone in case you need to make an emergency call.  Make sure you have a map of where you are going.  Make sure you have the contact details of the place you will be working.  Avoid walking down alleyways or subways, the long way round could be much safer.  Try to look confident.

Worst Case Scenario If someone does try to attack you, don’t fight back; it is much safer to give them what they want than to get hurt yourself! Get away as quickly as you can and report it.

Becoming an Employee Like every employee, you are subject to the same expectations of conduct/working.  Conduct  Dress  Mobile Phones – not at work (CP and H&S)  Twitter – No comments (Slander) For every action there will be a consequence + = Fantastic reference/Future Employment - = No reference/Criminal Proceedings

Think Safe  Think about your decisions before you make them – should you really accept that lift if you don’t know the person very well?  Think about the clothes you are wearing – would you be able to run away in a skirt and heels? Do your clothes attract attention?  Be aware of your surroundings.  Make sure you know the quickest way to get out of a bad situation.

Finally  Listen to your body – if you feel uncomfortable, it is for a reason, act on it!  Don’t accept drinks from a stranger.  If you feel unwell, do not be afraid to tell someone.  If you have a concern with your placement, contact Ms Sullivan at School.  If you are unsure of anything, then ask! Your teacher and employer will be more than happy to give you advice.
