JOSHUA SILVA My Trash Chronicles

Trash in our World Did you know that each person produces 4.3 pounds of trash everyday? Each year we Americans throw away 50 billion cans 27 billion glass bottles 65 million plastics

Where does the trash go? Landfills 85% of our trash is in landfills Landfills have only 5-10 years left No land to put Trash in, and could be contaminating ground water.

No More ROOM! What do we do when we run out of space to put our trash?

Where does the Trash go? (cont.) Can we burn it? Yes, BUT it releases too many toxins in our air and is more expensive. This also creates ash that needs to be thrown away in hazardous waste landfills.

Monday Me and my roommate cleaned out our fridge. We threw away a lot of old fruit and expired things that we never really used. We only took out one trash bag. And that bag was the one full of expired and useless food and packaging.

Tuesday Today I really didn’t throw away much. I just threw away some random wrappers and papers laying around in the room. Not even enough to fill up my trashcan. Kind of a boring day concerning my trash.

Wednesday At work today a disposal truck came by and took away about 260 tires. This is only the amount of tires the store has sold in 3 days. That’s a lot of RUBBER! I cant imagine how much the store has went through since it opened. Or the amount of rubber tires around the world are constantly being changed and thrown away. This number has to be extremely HIGH.

Thursday I guess today my roommate and I threw away a fair share of trash. Just the occasional fast food bags and cups, along with more paper. We did clean the room and threw dirt and dust in the trash. If that counts? We did end up throwing one bag out that was full though. So far we are up to two trash bags thrown away for the week.

Friday Yet another boring day in the trash world in room No reason to throw anything away since we cleaned up yesterday. I see a lot of people throwing their things away in school. Like food and junk like that. But for me and my roommate, nothing at all. Which is a good thing cause this shows how clean we are.

Saturday My trash today consists of food and soda cans. There’s a big pizza box sitting beside the trash can that my roommate brought home. He needs to take it out cause its causing the room to stink. This is trash bag number three of the week that has been taken out. Not too bad. I figure between the two of us it’s actually pretty good.

Sunday Today I threw away some bottles and cans from last night. I also threw away a lot of random trash around the room. A lot of empty plastic wrappers and plastic cups seemed to be the majority of trash that was left in the room that I had to throw away. Also old plates of food were also thrown away.

What we can do!

Go Green!! Refer to the three R’s in everything you do Reduce Reuse Recycle
