The Boston Massacre 1770 What was the Boston Massacre? How did the Sons of Liberty react to the Boston Massacre? SS4H4 The student will explain the causes, events, and results of the American Revolution. a. Trace the events that shaped the revolutionary movement in America, including the French and Indian War, British Imperial Policy that led to the 1765 Stamp Act, the slogan “no taxation without representation,” the activities of the Sons of Liberty, and the Boston Tea Party.

There was a great deal of tension between colonists and the British troops that occupied Boston.

On March 5, 1770, a fight broke out between a group of colonists and soldiers. The colonists threw snowballs, as well as sticks and rocks. One of the soldiers fired into the crowd. After that, the fighting increased and more shots were fired. Five colonists were killed.

Paul Revere’s famous picture of the Boston Massacre. What do you see in the picture? How accurately does the picture represent what happened? Did the British soldiers really fire into a peaceful crowd of colonists who were just standing on the street?

The Sons of Liberty used the picture to convince colonists that the British soldiers were dangerous. In 1772, they set up the Committees of Correspondence to share news with other colonies. Correspondence is written communication.
