You Have Come to Mt. Zion Hebrews 12: 18-29

“...there is a God—a God who in His own good time will bring forward great men again to do His will, great men to resist the tyranny of experts and lead humanity out again into the realms of light and freedom, great men, above all, who will be messengers of His grace. There is, far above any earthly mountain peak of vision, a God high and lifted up who, though He is infinitely exalted, yet cares for His children among men.”

Exodus 15 : The Song of Moses: Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying, “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. 2 The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him. 3 The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is his name. 4 “Pharaoh's chariots and his host he cast into the sea, and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea. 6 Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power, your right hand, O Lord shatters the enemy. 7 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries; you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble.

14 The peoples have heard; they tremble; pangs have seized the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed; trembling seizes the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. 16 Terror and dread fall upon them; because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone, till your people, O Lord, pass by, till the people pass by whom you have purchased. 17 You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain, the place, O Lord, which you have made for your abode, the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established. 18 The Lord will reign forever and ever.”

1. Grace without fear leads to self-righteousness.

2. Fear without Grace leads to idolatry.

Calvin: “Hence that dread and amazement with which as Scripture uniformly relates, holy men were struck and overwhelmed whenever they beheld the presence of God. …men are never duly touched and impressed with a conviction of their insignificance, until they have contrasted themselves with the majesty of God.”

The veil is rent – our souls draw near Unto a throne of grace The merits of the Lord appear, They fill the holy place His precious blood has spoken there, Before and on the throne; And His own wounds in heaven declare The Atoning work is done Tis finished! Here our souls have rest His work can never fail By Him, our Sacrifice and Priest We pass within the veil Within the Holiest of all, Cleansed by His precious blood Before the throne we prostrate fall, And worship Thee O God! Boldly the heart and voice we raise, His blood, His name, our plea Assured our prayers and songs of praise Ascend by Christ, to Thee
