Paradox – seems to contradict Mt. 10:39 - findeth life Mt. 23:11 - greatest - servant Does Jesus want us to be sad? Jn. 16:33 “be of good cheer” Phil. 4:4 “rejoice” Pro. 17:22 “merry heart” Blessed are they that Mourn
Mourn Does not mean Pessimist – complainer Consequences of sin Trials of life Persecution
Mourn Lament, grieve, to weep audibly, to shed tears Mourning for the dead “wailing” 2 Cor. 12:21
Mourn Spiritual mourning II Cor. 7:9-10 “Godly sorrow” Leads to Repentance
Mourn Good to feel pain Sensitivity to pain 1 Tim. 4:2 - conscience seared Eph. 4: 19 - past feeling
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 They shall be Comforted Consoled, be of good comfort

Mourning - repentance Brings comfort - forgiveness “peace of God that passeth all understanding” Phil. 4:7
