Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day

What is Yom HaZikaron - Israeli Memorial Day? Yom HaZikaron, the National Memorial Day for Israeli soldiers that were slain in battle, is a central element of the national commemoration of the fallen. The day is an expression of the state's deep moral debt owed to those that gave their lives in the defense of and/or honoring her very existence. It honors the memory of fallen IDF soldiers, and also those that were part of the pre-state underground, members of security forces, and victims of terror. Yom HaZikaron falls on the fourth day of the month of Iyar (from sunset to nightfall, as per the Jewish calendar), one day before Independence Day. The intense pain felt on Yom HaZikaron reminds us of the harsh price that must be paid for independence. that must be paid for independence.

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Both in the evening and during the daytime, all ceremonies are accompanied by a siren that signals a moment of silence What is Yom HaZikaron - Israeli Memorial Day? On Yom HaZikaron flags fly at half-mast and memorial ceremonies - both state- sponsored and private - take place all throughout the country. Media outlets direct their broadcast toward issues of collective bereavement and places of entertainment freeze all activities. In the evening, at the start of the holiday, there is a government ceremony at the Kotel (The Western Wall) while the day following sees most of the ceremonies take place in military cemeteries throughout the county.

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Every year there is a siren that sounds on Yom HaZikaron to signify a moment of silence and reflection. The coming video shows exactly what happens in Israel on Yom HaZikaron when that siren goes off. This is a moment of absolute silence and respect. The Siren

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Everyone in Israel has in some way been impacted by the tragedy of war and violence. In a nation where army service is mandatory and terrorism is a realized threat, everyone knows what it is like to lose a loved one or to fear for the safety of those they hold dear, so when the siren sounds each person stands at attention for the fallen. The Siren We ask that you please do the same as the video plays.

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Soldiers Aren't Just Heroes; They are Also Brothers, Sisters, and Friends We will always remember fallen soldiers of the IDF as heroes, but we must also remind ourselves that every soldier was a person who will never return home to his or her mother's arms. Each was a human being that leaves behind a family, a mother, a sibling, a child…families that will forever bear the burden of their loss.

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Soldiers Aren't Just Heroes; They are Also Brothers, Sisters, and Friends This song was written and composed by Ehud Manor, one of the premier song writers of Israel. During the War of Attrition, a low profile war which claimed the lives of many Israeli soldiers from 1967 through 1970, Ehud Manor’s younger brother Yehudah was killed in a battle on the Egyptian border. This song was written by Ehud as a tribute to his younger brother. "My Younger Brother Yehudah”

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day The Female Soldier: The Story of Keren Tendler Since the time of the pre-state underground defense movement, women have served- and fallen- in defense of the nation of Israel. Throughout the history of the state women have served in diverse units of the IDF and have proven essential to the country's security. Tendler was killed during the second Lebanon on August 12th, She and four other crew members died when their helicopter was shot down after deploying troops. After her death a fund was established in her name to help other young women become flight mechanics. Sgt. Maj. Keren Tendlerwas the first female helicopter flight mechanic in the IDF and was the first female Israeli soldier to die on active duty since the Yom Kippur War in Sgt. Maj. Keren Tendler was the first female helicopter flight mechanic in the IDF and was the first female Israeli soldier to die on active duty since the Yom Kippur War in 1973.

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Self-Sacrifice: The Story of Roi Klein Self-Sacrifice : The Story of Roi Klein We will never forget the heroes that fell, and we must also never forget the courage that they showed in the lives

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Victims of Terror On this day we also remember the victims of terror; terror from the dawn of Zionism to the attacks in today's world. The sad reality is that in Israel soldiers aren’t the only ones who suffer for our ideals nor are they the only ones who die at the hands of our enemies. It is for that reason we use this day to remember the thousands who were murdered for the simple fact that they were Jews in the land of Israel. On March 11 th, 2011, five members of the Fogel family were killed in a terror attack in the settlement of Itamar. They were stabbed to death in their beds following their Friday night Shabbat dinner

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Longing for Peace Alongside the wars and conflicts, there is the constant longing for peace and the incessant prayers that perhaps the next war will also be the last This song came out in 1991, 18 years after the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Like all the soldiers that came before them, those who fought in the Yom Kippur War hoped that their war would be the final one and that peace could be achieved. "The Winter of Seventy Three" The people singing the song are only 18 years old; the children of the 1973 War. Eighteen years later, though their parents hoped for peace, these children are suiting up and marching out to defend their homeland. This song expresses the feelings of those 18 year-olds.

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Yizkor (Remembrance) Prayer Yizkor – Commemorating those that came before us is a tradition central to Judaism. We have prayers and ceremonies during holidays and throughout the year to remember those that have passed. This is a special Yizkor designed to commemorate all those who have been killed in defense of the State of Israel, and all those citizens who lost their lives in terrorist attacks

Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day Yizkor (Remembrance) Prayer Remember The Nation of Israel will remember, its sons and its daughters, its faithful and brave, the soldiers of the Israeli Defense Forces, and the members of the underground who fought in the nation’s struggle, and all the members of the intelligence, security, and police forces whose lives were extinguished in the war for Israel’s establishment, and all those who were murdered in Israel and abroad at the hands of murdering terrorists. The nation of Israel will remember and be blessed by, and mourn the lost splendor of its youth, and their admirable courage, indomitable will and self sacrifice which was destroyed in the difficult and ongoing struggle. May the heroes of Israel’s struggle, enveloped in victory, be ingrained in the hearts of the people of Israel for all eternity.
