Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-12) Dr. Joseph Chang BOLGPC 10/5/2014

Beatitude (Matt 5:1-12) 1 Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them, saying: 3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

Beatitude (Matt 5:1-12) 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

Beatitude (Matt 5:1-12) 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matt 5:1-12)

Remarks 1. It is for the future kingdom leaders A. Pursuing the deeper relationship with our Maker. B. Modeling after God, so that we may rule this land his way C. Perfecting the relationship with fellow citizens.

Remarks 2. The Beatitudes will be implemented completely in Millennium. It is the testimony to the modern day world. Practice makes it perfect. 3. Each of the Beatitudes is pronounced on the one who possesses a certain spiritual quality. This indicates that entrance into the kingdom is based on one’s spiritual condition.

4. 這八個蒙福的原因, 都和將來彌 賽亞的國度有關. 4. The promise of the beatitudes is related to the future Messianic Kingdom.

I. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 16 "The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it. (Luke 16:16) 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it. (Matt 11:12)

Application 應用 2 就要愛慕那純淨的靈奶,像才生的嬰 孩愛慕奶一樣,叫你們因此漸長,以 致得救。 ( 彼前 2:2) 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, (1Pet 2:2)

II. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Which will you mourn for? (For parents) Your kid does not want to go to college. Your kid does not want to eat. You kid does not want to study. Your kid does not want to get married. Your kid does not want to have children. Your kid does not want to play video games. Your kid does not want to smoke. It is 2:00 am and your kid would not quit computer gaming. He has a full school day tomorrow.

II. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Your parents are seeking divorce. Other kids cheat in the exam. Your dream school does not admit you. Your boy friend/girl friend does not want to marry you. Your grandparent is sent to the nursing home. Your dad quit smoking. Your dad quit drinking. It is 2:00 am and your brother would not quit computer gaming. He has a full school day tomorrow.

We mourn according to our value system. 我們依照我們的價值標準而哀慟.

II. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. We mourn for the evil around us. James FoleySteven SotloffHerve Gourdel Alan Henning

II. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. God will surely win the victory.

II. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. We mourn for our own spiritual condition 1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the Lord's hand double for all her sins. (Isa 40:1-2)

III. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Meek: absence of pretension, suggest gentleness. The earth is the most meek, accepting all things.
