Presentation transcript:

The Beatitudes  Jesus taught this eternally relevant lesson as part of The Sermon on the Mount.  The Beatitudes are found in Matthew 5:3-10

The values of the Beatitudes are the values we need to live a moral life and to satisfy the desire for happiness God places in our hearts.

 Jesus taught the truth of happiness in living the Beatitudes.  The Beatitudes respond to the Ten Commandments, not deny them.  They are Christ’s ways depicted for us.  Following these lifestyles will make sure that the law is obeyed willingly as a part of one’s life, and not as a burden added to it.  The Beatitudes are a promise of hope that the reward of heaven awaits those who seek it with all of their being.

Mathew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven We should not be overly attached to possessions. Our confidence should be in God

Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted We are to be signs of hope and comfort to those who suffer injustice and loss

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the land We realize that our talents and abilities come from God, and we use them to show love for God and others

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied We put our trust in God and carry out Christ’s works of justice

Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy We show compassion to all people and will receive love and forgiveness ourselves in God’s kingdom

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God  We accept God and God’s Law. As faithful Christians, we find Christ in others.  When our hearts are truly filled with truth and light, our perspective changes, our outlook brightens, and the love Christ teaches becomes clear.

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God We are called to be reconcilers in our homes, communities and world

Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven We are to live out our Christian faith even when others do not understand, ridicule or share our beliefs
