Legend of Leown By Hailey Yow

Legend of Leown by Hailey Yow

Roam, Serenity, Levi, and Renee were all outside sitting in a circle around a burning pile of wood. Roam’s Father was telling them about the Legend of Leown. He told them “Legend has it, if a mere mortal climbed up Mountain Leown, they would get to drink from the Puddles of Purity and be the most powerful man or woman in all of Greece.

Serenity asked, “Where do the Puddles of Purity come from?” Roam’s Father told her, “They say gods sit atop the gigantic mountain to mourn, think, and cry. When tears fall from the large beings, it forms giant puddles that look like lakes to us.”

That night, Roam, Serenity, Levi, and Renee laid under the stars with wonder in their hearts. They talked about what they would do if they reached the top of Mt. Leown. Then they chased each other around as if they had superpowers. One by one they fell asleep.

The following week brought sickness upon Roam’s Father, and Roam was very upset. After talking to his friends, they decided they would bring him water from the Puddles of Purity. “That would make him more powerful than he’s ever been before, and you can forget about him getting sick again,” said Levi.

They all planned how they would get to Mountain Leown the following afternoon. “We’ll go at night while all the parents are in the middle of their sleep,” said Serenity. “We’ll head out after everyone is asleep.”

On their journey, Roam was responsible for food and drinks, Levi was responsible for shelter and warmth. Serenity and Renee were responsible for bringing something to contain the water from the Puddles of Purity. They all met at the statue in the garden after dark.

From the garden they went through the wheat fields and down the dirt path. The whole time they walked it felt as if they were close enough to touch the mountain but would never reach it. Meanwhile, Leona and Randle were saddling, Trinity, their horse. The children didn’t know it, but soon they would set out and wait for the others to come down the mountain with the tears.

Levi and Roam went up the mountain first so, they could help the girls if needed. On the way up, they found a cave that was perfect for them to rest their heads. “We may not find another cave like this one and now it’s becoming hard to go on,” said Levi. Strange as it was, they slept the morning and some of the next afternoon away. Randle and Leona camped at the bottom of the mountain, waiting patiently.

When they awoke, the children continued up the mountain and reached the top four hours later. None of them could believe their eyes. There were puddles everywhere! They all hurried to get the tears for Roam’s Father. After that, they headed back down and returned home.

When they reached the bottom of the mountain, Leona and Randle were still asleep. They had to hurry so they took the horse Trinity and rode off. Roam stumbled into the door and told his father all about his journey to get the tears. His father was shocked, but drank the tears as he listened. The next day, Roam, Serenity, Renee and Levi piled on their Father’s back, and he flew them around Greece. He was forever grateful that they had gone through so much trouble for him to live. Super powers were a bonus he promised to honor as well.
