Memory Verse: 2 Corinthians 7:10 “ 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” BIBLE PASSAGE: 2 Corinthians 7:9-10 INTRODUCTION: Genuine repentance is making a complete reversal of all evil actions being taken. It could be regarded as change of mind that leads to a change of conduct – Matthew 21:28-32.

Outline 1: REASONS FOR GENUINE REPENTANCE. 1.It is an experience that must precede genuine conversion – Acts 3:19. 2.It is also a spiritual experience that prepare us for heaven – Matthew 4:17. 3.It is God’s command – Act 17:30. 4.This is mandatory because failure to heed this injunction leads to eternal condemnation – Luke 13:3.

Outline 2: RESULTS OF GENUINE REPENTANCE. 1.Attitudinal change – Luke 15:11-21, Psalm 38:18, Luke 18:13. 2.Pardon and the blotting out of past sins – Isaiah 55:7, Acts 3:19. 3.Escape from eternal condemnation and death – Ezekiel 33:14-15.

CONCLUSION It should be noted that any sorrow that is not accompanied by a determination to forsake sin is useless and cannot be considered as genuine repentance. Rather, it is the Holy Spirit that works in us to do of His good pleasure – Philippians 2:13.
