Introduction to Acts No room for doubt (Acts 1:3) Presented Himself alive by many infallible proofs Was seen and heard speaking of the kingdom of God Jesus commanded the apostles to wait in Jerusalem for the Promise of the Father (v4) “Lord will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” It is not for you to know the time or season

What Promise did Jesus make? (Acts 1:8) But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” 1) But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you

The Work of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26-16:15) Jesus continues to prepare them for His departure The Helper will come (Spirit of truth) He will testify of me He will teach you all things (14:26) He will remind you of what I said (14:26) Why is Jesus telling them this? (16:1 & 4) They will put you out of the synagogue They will think they offer God a service by killing you

The Work of the Holy Spirit (John 15:26-16:15) Now I go to My Father who sent me Sorrow has filled the apostles heart (v. 6) It is to your advantage that I go… Why? The Helper will: Convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment Deliver the many things Jesus still needs to tell them Guide you into all truth Will not speak on His own authority but what He hears He speaks Tell you things to come He will glorify Me Take what is Mine and declare it to you

Your Sorrow Will Turn to Joy (John 16:16-33) A little while -> You will not see me Disciples are perplexed You will weep and lament but the world will rejoice During the first 40 days->Peter: “I am going fishing” Can you imagine what is going through their mind? Your sorrow will turn to joy (A woman’s labor)

What Promise did Jesus make? (Acts 1:8) But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” 2) You shall be witnesses

Your Shall Be a Witness What is called if I tell something in court that I heard but didn’t see? A witness is someone who sees and hears an event THEMSELVES Can we be a witness for Christ?

What Promise did Jesus make? (Acts 1:8) 3) witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Go Teach Matt. 28:19-20 Mark 16:15-16 Luke 24:27 Combination Teach all nations Preach to every creature Preach in His name among all the nations Preach/Teach *ALL Nations* He that believeth Believes Repentance Repents Baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit And is baptized Baptized Shall be saved/ No belief (condemned) Remission of sins Shall be saved/ Remission of sin Teach to observe all things commanded

Ascension (Acts 1:9-14) After the Great Commission, he ascends while they watch And while they looked steadfastly … What is the disciples mindset now? Who is there (1:13)? What are they doing (1:14)? They continued with one accord in prayer and supplication

Matthias Chosen (Acts 1:15-26) While waiting Peter stands (among 120) and reminds Judas’ fulfills Scripture (Ps. 41:9) Ac 1:20 "For it is written in the book of Psalms: 'Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it'; and, 'Let another take his office.‘ (Ps 69:25; 109:8) Joseph or Matthias Been with us all the time Jesus was on earth Do they replace any other apostles? (James)

The Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4) In Acts 2, what Feast are they celebrating? How long has it been since the Passover? So, about how long has it been since Jesus ascended into Heaven? What were they waiting for? What do they hear? What do they see? What do they start doing?

The Multitudes Hear the Sound and come Rushing Amazed and Marveled! Confused? We all hear in our own languages!? Ac 2:9 "Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 "Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 "Cretans and Arab

Go Tell the Good News In verse 11 what was the message they were hearing? Two Reactions Amazed and perplexed saying what can this mean? Other mocked and said, they are drunk!

Go Tell the Good News Peter stands with the 11 “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.” (9AM)

Go Tell the Good News Peter could have said, just believe us! We can do miracles. Didn’t you hear that? However, Peter takes them back and shows them what is happening was prophesied in the Scriptures Why is this important? Acts 2:17-21

Go Tell the Good News God Sent Jesus (v22) You killed Him (v23) He was proved by miracles, wonders and signs which God did through Him You killed Him (v23) God Raised Him (v24) Verses 25-28 We are Witnesses (v32) God is in control (v23)

The People’s Reaction (Acts 2:37-41) How did the people respond? Cut to the heart Men and brethren, what shall we do? Peter responds Repent Be baptized In the name of Jesus Christ For the remission of sin You will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit

The People’s Reaction (Acts 2:37-41) The Promise is to you and to your children To those afar off Peter continues to say, “Be saved from this perverse generation” Those who gladly received Him were baptized 3,000 people were added to the Church that day

The People Continue (Acts 2:42-47) They continued steadfast In the Apostles’ doctrine Fellowship Breaking of bread Prayer How did the people react when the Apostles began doing miracles? (v43) What did those who believed do? The Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved!
