Adjectives that compare! You can use adjectives to compare two or more nouns. Add –er to an adjective to compare two nouns. Add –est to compare more than two nouns.

Adjectives that compare slower The merry-go-round is slower than the Ferris wheel. fastest The roller coaster is the fastest ride in the park.

y yi–er–est When the adjective ends with in a consonant sound and y, change the y to i and add –er or –est. luckyluckierluckiest ee–er– est When the adjective ends in e, drop the e and add –er or – est. bravebraverbravest –er –est For the adjectives that have a single vowel sound before a final consonant, double the final consonant and add –er or –est. bigbiggerbiggest
