QINGHAI PROVINCE, CHINA KUTHOR BOARDING SCHOOL ~ A Tibet homeless children shelter ~ 2007 ON-THE-SPOT REPORT By MEI-YU

Kuthor Boarding School located in the remote mountain area of Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Region of Qinghai Province of China. It accommodate orphan, single parent, poor family kids and to offer them a chance to go to school.

The position of the school is very remote, will not arrive unless cross over mountain after mountain

While reaching school, students stand in the roadside to welcome us.

A lot of children live in the school. They sleep on the ground which covered with earth and gravel.

The life in the school is in privation. There is no tapwater, no electricity, not even telephone. A lot of things need students to do by themselves, so they must help each other. The elder child looks after junior child.

The young child help to plant or pluck vegetables. Elder child is responsible for cooking

Children’s food is very simple, such as rice porridge, pancake etc.

Because classroom are not enough, so all children have to take meal outside.

While having meal, they must look for place to take food.

The second girl on the left without bowl to take food. She was waiting her companion eats up to lend her bowl.

Before dinner time, everybody looks for branch to break to appropriate length which act as chopsticks.

Do you find? These kids used “branch” as chopsticks

They did not have dining table and because small kid can not move his bowl, so he ate on the ground.

Though food is very simple, but children still enjoy it very much. After finish the food, she lick the bowl to clean everything.

Children’s pencil always be used as short as possible.

Children’s textbook have been all already tattered, but can not throw away, they must leave to the junior kids.

A lot of children wore ragged clothes!

This kid made the belt by himself.

This kid carry special schoolbag!

The school classroom is built of earth, stone gravel and branch. One classroom has been collapsed, the other two are in dangers too.

Look! What’s the roof material?

The damaged wall and broken door.

Because without electric light, so the classroom is very dim.

Because lack of classroom, desk and chair, so students must crowd together in class.

Because classroom is not enough, so some of students must have class on outside.

The outdoor sunshine is very strong. Students are sweating and dizzy.

Textbook are not enough, so students must read together.

There is not toy in school, even a stone, children can play and have fun very much.

There is not hospital, teacher must help kid to extract the tooth.

Look! Teeth have been pulled out!

Students go to the bank of the river to have a bath.

River is very cold, but this is the only way they can take bath.

The Kuthor Boarding School only have 3 classroom which was built of earth, stone gravel and branch, one classroom has been collapsed, the other two are in dangers too. Please kindly donate your love, let them have a safe school that can hide the wind and snow.

Kuthor Boarding School Reconstruction Fund Though do not have safte and comfortable classroom, but we have blue sky. Though do not have new textbook, but we have joyous mind. Though do not have beautiful clothes, but we have innocent smiling. We have many schoolmates growing up together. We only need a school which can let us study. Would you kindly help us?
