9/12/07 BR- Analyze the following Quote: “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing.” -Edmund Burke Today: Putting Your Laws To the Test.. Check for assignments!

Activity: 1.Get back into your groups and get your laws from yesterday. 2.Decide if there were any changes, additions you wanted to make.

Using only the laws you came up with yesterday decide on how your colony would handle the following situations 1. One of the colonist has begun capturing the sneetches and forcing them to work on his farm. His farm is producing a lot of food for the colony. The farmer has to keep the sneetches locked up at night to keep them from running away. During the day he ties them to their work station and sometimes beats them if they don’t work.

2. One of the colonist who specializes in making tools has decided he won’t make or fix any new tools unless someone builds him a new place to live. 3. A husband and wife have decided that they refuse to have children. 4. A man who spends most of his time sleeping or drinking “space juice” that he smuggled on the ship has been caught stealing food. 5. A colonist discovers a strange rock that glows and can be used as a light if the rock is cleaned and soaks in the water for a time. The only problem is that the lake where colonist has been cleaning and soaking rocks has started to smell funny, the water tastes bad and all of the creatures in the lake are dying.

6. A colonist has been spreading false rumors about another colonist 7. A group of 100 colonists has decided that your laws are “bogus” and wants to take some food and supplies and move to another part of the planet. Among the 100 colonists is a woman who knows how to build machinery and all 3 of the doctors from the chip. 8. The colony has started producing children of school age. Some colonists want their children to go to school, others insist that they help them at home.

9. A man hears another male colonist say something rude about his wife. He confronts the rude guy and tells him to take back what he says. The rude guy refuses. The man tells him to take it back or hill beat his head in. The rude guy punches the man in the face. The punch cause the man to have a stroke that paralyzes the man and makes him unable to work. The rude guy apologize for the man’s stroke but says he didn’t mean to hurt him.

10. A group of 10 colonists are concerned about the laws that you have made. They would like to have some say in making some more laws and changing the ones you have. The first law they want to add is a law that makes it illegal to intentionally kill animals.
