Presentation transcript:

What traits do we inherit from our parents?

What does the word prevalent mean? Predictions?

Hitchhiker’s Thumb Straight thumbs (dominant trait) can be seen as nearly a straight line and may contain a slight arch when viewed from the side as in the illustrations.  Curved thumbs (recessive trait) can be seen as part of a circle.

Ear Lobes Free earlobes (dominant trait) hang below the point of attachment to the head.  Attached ear lobes (recessive trait) are attached directly to the side of the head.

Widow's Peak Widow’s Peak (dominant trait) Straight Hairline (recessive trait).

Roll Tongue Rolled Tongue (dominant trait) Cannot roll tongue (recessive trait).

Right Handed Right handed (dominant trait) Left Handed (recessive trait).

Mid Digital Hair Mid digital hair (dominant trait) Hairless (recessive trait).

Freckles Freckles (dominant trait) No Freckles (recessive trait).

Dimples Dimples (dominant trait) No Dimples (recessive trait).

Cleft Chin Cleft Chin (dominant trait) No Cleft (recessive trait).

Clasp hands left over right (dominant trait) Right over left(recessive trait).

Six Fingers Six Fingers (dominant trait) 5 fingers (recessive trait).

Bent Pinkies Bent pinky (dominant trait) Straight pinky (recessive trait): Hold your hands together as if you are covering your face. If the tips of the pinkies (or baby fingers) point away from one another, the pinkies are bent (recessive trait).

Longer Big Toe Longer Big toe (dominant trait) Longer 2nd toe(recessive trait).

Taste PTC Taste PTC (dominant trait) Can’t Taste PTC (recessive trait).

Calculating Percent Percent (%) = number of students with the trait / total number of students surveyed X 100. For example: 15 students with the trait / 25 students surveyed X 100 = 60%
