Presentation transcript:

1 Kings 17 Trust in the Lord

Trust in God’s Promises (vv. 1-7) v. 1 – Elijah had to trust that God would protect him. vv. 2-4 – God’s command to Elijah is very similar to His command to Abraham in Genesis 12. v. 5 – Elijah’s response is just like Abraham’s as well. vv. 6-7 – God kept His promises. God kept His promises to Elijah, and He continues to keep His promises today. He may not work as fast as we want Him to, but we must continue to trust in Him.

Trust During Hardships (vv. 8-16) vv. 8-9 – Once again, God commands Elijah to get up and leave. v. 10 – Once again, Elijah gets up and leaves without questioning. vv – During hard times, notice the widow’s attitude. vv – How many of us would believe Elijah? v. 15a – The widow’s reaction shows that she trusted in the Lord too. When we go through the “droughts of life,” we can’t let our trust in the Lord waver. We must have trust that He will get us through them and provide the rain.

Trust in God’s Power (vv ) vv – The hardships continue for the widow. v. 19 – Elijah knew that only the Lord could raise her son. vv – Elijah trusted that the Lord would hear his prayer and answer it. v. 22 – Like He has throughout this chapter, God provides. vv – The widow praises God after He provides. We must pray to God with the confidence that He will provide according to our needs. And when He has provided for us, we can’t forget to praise Him.
