 Tourism has a strong economic impact in France : 6.3 % of Gross Domestic Product.  Local authorities overestimate employment related to tourism and its contribution to the local economy. Difficulties to estimate employment related to tourism: -Administrative source can’t directly calculate employment related to tourist. - The impact of tourism is highly variable for one activity to another. -The i mpact of tourism for the same activity is variable, depending on the location. 4

5

 Municipalities are divided into three levels of tourist equipment: - Poorly equipped - Moderately equipped - Well equipped  This classification is based on 6 indicators: - Salaried employees in restaurant - Capacity in restaurant - Hotel capacity - Camping capacity - Density of second homes - Presence of a tourist site  The tourist equipment of basin life where the town is located is also involved in the classification. 6

 There are 5 types of activities - 100% tourist : hotels... - Heavily tourist : restaurant... - Moderately tourist : hypermarket... - Low tourist : road transport... - No tourist : industry...  This method takes into account only the salaried job and j obs that directly offer a good or a service to tourists. 7

 An employment daily curve for each tourist activity is made in different areas.  According to the typology of cities and activities, we take into account: - All jobs - Or only seasonal jobs - Or seasonal jobs adding to a part of permanent jobs 8

A low tourist activity, located in a city well equipped. Only the hump of curve is considered as tourism jobs. 9
