8 th Grade Mathematics Mrs. Laura Czvornyek Room 613 This entire slide show will be available on my website, so sit back, relax, and enjoy.

About me… 10 th year of teaching (have taught all middle school grade levels) 8 th year in Millstone, spent 2 years teaching in the middle school I attended as a child (Linden, NJ) Love math & teaching it Excited to be a new mom & join your ranks, but sad to have to leave my students—your children.

Course Description This course prepares students for the NJASK, high school, and real-life.

Daily Procedures Do Now/Copy Today’s HW Review last night’s HW Lesson (CMP2 launch, explore, summarize) CMP2 is Discovery-based Program (used in many districts in NJ) Wrap up and make sure HW is understood. New schedule—alternating 44/88 minute periods.

Pearson: Connected Mathematics 2 Parent Website: Prentice Hall CMP2 Website: Interactive Textbook: - See registration information sheet or my website CMP2 Student Website: -For homework help, multiple choice skills practice, active online math, vocabulary quizzes Calculators: TI-30X IIB

Binders Due to the nature of the program, binder organization is crucial. I have suggested to your child organizing his/her binder using the following sections: Important Information – parent letter, grade sheet, binder guidelines Class work – Investigations, notes, examples Homework – ACE questions or other assigned worksheets, Computation Skills Builder Tests/Quizzes – keep all quizzes and tests until binder clean out (then transfer to a folder at home)

Grades HW/CW/Preparedness–20% HW is assigned most nights. NO WORK = NO CREDIT HW is posted on board and on my website. Planner, Binder, Pencils should be brought to class daily. Planner is also used for as a bathroom pass/log Homework scores start at 100. Five points are deducted for missing HW assignments, 1 point is deducted for each time a student is unprepared for class. Tests/Quizzes/Projects – 80% Each assessment will be worth a different point value that is standard throughout the department/grade level. Tests will be weighted heavier than quizzes. Extra Credit (only included on tests/quizzes) No signatures necessary— online access to all grades

PowerSchool I will no longer be using grade sheets or having tests signed! You can update yourself about your child’s progress by logging on to PowerSchool. Please allow me adequate time to grade your child’s work—I do give partial credit and grade work shown, so grading tests can be somewhat time consuming, but it is in the best interest of your child. I will do my best to update and publish grades as soon as assignments are corrected. HW will be updated weekly.

Extra Help – “LEHP” Advanced: Tuesday Regular: Friday Bring bag lunch to maximize help time Homework It’s all about practice & trying!

Study Island Log-In and passwords are the same as last year. I will have info shortly, just in case you forgot yours Math, LA, & Science will be the available subjects.

8 th Grade Topics Covered Linear Relationships Probability & Expected Value Linear & Inverse Variation The Pythagorean Theorem Exponential Relationships Symmetry & Transformations Making Sense of Symbols

Remember… Keep open lines of communication. We need to know if there are academic concerns at home. Please use our websites & any additional resources you find. Please share any of the wonderful & helpful things you find with us so we may pass them along. Please log on to your child’s Power School account to track their progress throughout the year.

Communication Web Page: or access through the district website’s directory Phone #: Extension 80094

Before you rush off to your next class… Do you have any Questions??
