Polymeric Resettable Fuse Device a novel solution for circuit protection from OVER-CURRENT The Polymeric PTC device replaces “one-time use” fuses. Instead of the traditional fuse wire, the PPTC fuse uses a patented polymer based technology which allows it to be reset thousands of times. PRODUCT INTRODUCTION Enerdyne

Polymeric Resettable Fuse Device When connected in series to a circuit, the PPTC resettable device remains at extremely low resistance and allows the electrical current to flow through it without any restriction. When over current occurs, the devices reacts to the heat generated by excess current. On reaching the specified “trip current” level, it changes from low resistance to a very high resistance thereby limiting the fault current to a very small value (nearly to “open state”). Once normal current is restored, the device resets back to its normal state of low resistance and allows the current to flow through once again. Enerdyne

Polymeric Resettable Fuse Device HOW IT WORKS. Enerdyne FUZETEC™ resettable fuses are made of patented novel PPTC material in thin chip form where conductive particles are dispersed in a polymer that has a crystalline structure. At normal operating conditions there are numerous chains forming conductive paths throughout the PPTC material. Under fault conditions (tripped state), excessive current flows through the PPTC device and the PPTC material heats up. This makes the polymer matrix’s morphology change from crystalline to amorphous. Under these conditions the conductive particles move apart from each other, most of them no longer conduct current and the resistance of the device increases sharply. Upon fault current being removed, the resettable fuse is reset and allows the current through the circuit again.
