Objectives of the master plan The main objective of the master plan for the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management is the minimization of the MSW amount to final disposal concerning the municipality (the example of Preveza, Greece). Development of the master plan Evaluation of the current situation regarding waste management in the selected municipality. Development of waste generation and management scenarios regarding the next decades taking into account the regional planning. Evaluation of the available rational waste management schemes: -Home and municipal composting -Recycling -Reuse of waste -Production and waste derived fuel (biomass) -Operation of reuse and recycling centres -Landfill restoration

Municipal composting The implementation of municipal composting scheme will achieve significant waste diversion from the total amound ending up in landfills. In this way it has been estimated that the municipality of Preveza will reduce the WM cost by €/year.

Anaerobic Digestion Unit An Anaerobic Digestion Unit (ADU) is proposed to operate in the municipality of Preveza in order to decrease the waste amount ending up in landfills. Biogas, as a result of the ADU operation, can be exploited for thermal and electric energy production.
