Why/What is a Comprehensive Strategy? WHY: Most of achievement gaps driven by out-of- school factors: –Gap in school readiness (pre-kindergarten) –Poor physical, mental, and dental health and nutrition –Lack of consistent adult mentors –Dearth of enrichment and recreational activities WHAT: Programs to provide those supports: –Quality Early Childhood Education –Accessible (including in-school) health care –Mentors and tutors –Enriching afterschool and summer activities
