HIGH COURT Andrea Johnson, Arielle James

APPEALS COURT  The court may also introduce a new law to the parliament.  The head of all courts next to the supreme courts.  Structure of the court involves: deputies, plenum, presidium, & the chambers for the civil & criminal cases.

JUDGE & JURY INFO  The current Russian jury model is a peculiar hybrid of pre- revolutionary Russian criminal procedures. Its distinctive elements are: the lack of jurisdiction over crimes against the state; the absence of the unanimity requirement; a three-hour maximum deliberation period; the option to remand a case back to the prosecution for additional investigation; and the Supreme Court’s right to overturn a verdict

SENTENCING Violent /Sexual Crime extended sentence Long time in custody followed by long time under supervision Murder Minimum time in custody followed by lifetime supervision Armed Robbery/ Rape Life imprisonment

CASES The UK’s highest court has ruled that a Russian case over a multimillion-dollar loan should be heard in Russia rather than London, in a move that lawyers say could deter more overseas litigants from using English courts as a place to fight their legal battles. The Supreme Court ruled on the case of VTB, a state-owned Russian bank, which attempted to pursue fraud and conspiracy claims in London’s High Court against two defendants connected to a $225m loan agreement.
