TOMATO FROG Adults tomato frogs are pretty big than a person fist. Males tend to grow to about 2 and a half inches in length. Females can get up to 3-4 inches.

Fact about Tomato Frog Tomato frog live up to their name by possessing a vibrant orange-red color. Some individuals also have black spots on the throat. It is thought that the brilliant color of the tomato frog act as a warning to potential predators that these frog toxic. The exact distribution of this species is unclear however due to confusion with the closely related D. gaiety.

Habitat Burrows into the ground and eats passing insect. They tend not to chase the food around but rather wait for a nearby movement. These guys are mostly nocturnal so don't expect a lot of action during the daylight hours.

Life Tomato frogs live up to their name by possessing a vibrant, orange-red color. Females are much larger than males and have brighter tones of red or orange on their back, with a pale undersurface. Some individuals also have black spots on the throat. It is thought that the brilliant colors of the tomato frog act as a warning to potential predators that these frogs are toxic; a white substance secreted from the skin acts as a glue to deter predators (such as colored snakes) and can produce an allergic reaction in humans.

Appearance Like its name suggests, the tomato frog is one of three species of frogs that very much resemble a bright, red ripe tomato. The females of this species are larger and more brightly colored than the males.

Interesting Fact Obviously the first thing you notice about the Tomato Frog is the bright red coloring. What does it typically mean when an animal has bright coloring? No, it doesn’t mean that they are sloppy finger painters (well I guess it could), it means they are most likely toxic.
