Chapter one introduces the scene, the setting, the circumstances and the characters involved determining the reasons for the Bhagavad-Gita's revelation

Characters Sanjaya – Disciple of Vyasadeva Dhratarastra – Blind king Arjuna – Devotee and relative of Krishna

Principle character of Gita Bhagavan Sri Krishna The Supreme Lord

The scene is the sacred plain of Kuruksetra. The setting is a battlefield. The circumstances is war.

640 million soldiers on both sides. Krishna is using Arjuna as an instrument to speak the Bhagavad- Gita

Arjuna is dejected and lamenting. Thus this chapter is entitled: Lamenting the Consequence of War.

Dhratarastra is blind materially and spiritually.

Sanajaya The disciple of Vyasa is able to see the batlefield live from Hastinapura.

The first chapter sets the scene for the rest of the Gita.
