Jack R. Aron Background information concerning Mr. Aron Jack Aron believed deeply in the mission and work of Tulane University and was passionate about Tulane, especially medical education, clinical activities, and public health. Between 1968 and 1977 Jack played a tremendous role in the development and expansion of the health medical sciences at Tulane, when his vision, generosity, and thoughtfulness proved instrumental in creating the Tulane hospital. Since his passing in 1994, the Jack R. Aron Scholars Program has helped more than 350 students successfully complete their studies at Tulane. It was Jack’s hope that every recipient would one day contribute to the fund in his name to ensure subsequent generations of scholars would have the same opportunity to enter into the health sciences.

Tulane School of Medicine Dr. Julian Hawthorne Scholarships Tulane will award up to two incoming students a Hawthorne Scholarship covering half of prevailing tuition. The value of the scholarship will keep pace with any future tuition increase so as to always equate to half-tuition during a student’s 4 year medical school career.

Dr. Julian Hawthorne Background information concerning Dr. Hawthorne The Dr. Julian Hawthorne Educational Fund was established in 1957 by the bequest of Dr. Julian Hawthorne, a 1920 graduate of the Tulane School of Medicine. Dr, Hawthorne was a native of Pine Apple, Alabama. Following his medical studies at Tulane and an internship at Touro Infirmary he taught in Tulane’s anatomy department (from 1921-22) and at the Yale Medical School form 1922-23. He later conducted private practice in New York and Connecticut. Dr. Hawthorne was hailed as “a conscientious worker and a physician with a warm understanding of his fellow human beings.” Hawthorne Scholarships are awarded to “deserving medical students” at Tulane’s School of Medicine.
