An Invitation to think about the Mission and Service Fund

Where does your money go?

People already give

To the United Way To the Salvation Army To the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes, to groups like Green Peace and the Heart Fund To Hospital Foundations To World Vision, Shoe Boxes To Political Parties

People already give in so many ways!!!! Thank You !!!!!!

Churches and UCW’s Already Give

To camps To projects like Beads of Hope, the Healing Campaign, United for Peace United for Peace To community outreach projects To needy families in their areas To foodbanks To social service agencies

To Individuals who are in need To seniors’ homes To special emergent projects Providing free or nearly free space to other organizations: AA, mother’s and tots AA, mother’s and tots Giving to clothing drives, Supporting shelters etc.

United Church People Are Generous!!!!!!! Thank You!!!!

How many of these projects are wrong??? None

All of these projects are our Christian response to the biblical call to clothe the naked and feed the hungry. Matthew 25: 34-36

The United Church Response

The Mission and Service Fund funds programs in all of these areas: Feeding the hungry providing health programs for teens in need providing medical services for isolated communities Giving money to shelters Helping the poor

Supporting Chaplaincies Supporting First Nation’s Ministries Supporting projects and ecumenical partnerships in the 3 rd World Financing Church Redevelopment Projects Giving to New Church Development

funding theological Schools funding ecumenical endeavours providing General Council and Conference staff to assist with congregational programs We provide all these services and more with your gifts to the: Mission and Service Fund

Thank You!!!!!!

In Montreal and Ottawa Conference In 2008 we provide support to: 1 First Nations Ministry 7 Chaplaincies 11 Congregations 8 Community Outreach Projects.

We did all this with the $575,000 provided for us in Mission Support Grants

Grants to Montreal and Ottawa Conference in 2009 have been reduced to just over $466,000

This Mission Support grant money is provided to Montreal and Ottawa Conference through your gifts to the Mission and Service Fund. Thank You!!!!!!

Our challenge “When I needed a neighbour, Were you there?” Voiced United 600

Since 1988 annual givings to the Mission and Service Fund have remained at $30,000,000

Since 1988, prices and salaries have gone up substantially: What cost $100 in 1988 Now costs $ 162

That means if you gave $100 in today’s money to the Mission and Service Fund

It would be worth only $61.83 in 1988 dollars

$30,000,000 of today’s dollars does not compare to the 30 Million dollars given in In fact it is only worth $18,500,000. Inflation has eaten away the rest.

This means that it is harder and harder to support the important ministries in Montreal and Ottawa Conference, Canada and the world.

We already know that you are a generous people

We know that the present economic climate is uncertain. is uncertain.

In these tough economic times, we are not asking people to break their bank.

When organizations come to your door asking for donations

Please be generous but please don’t forget “ Whenever we have an opportunity, let us do good to all people…” Galatians 6: 10

The Mission and Service Fund

The goal for the Mission and Service Fund in 2009 is $32,500,000

The goal for 2010 for the Mission and Service Fund is $32,500,000

We can only achieve We can only achieve these goals if these goals if we work together we work together

A possible idea “ Honour the Lord your God, from your wealth…” Proverbs 3:9

A special project idea from our friends in Hamilton Conference.

What can one small dime Possibly do? A dime buys enough gas to travel 1 kilometre, or it might buy two pieces of candy. Not much!!!!!

If every member of Montreal and Ottawa Conference Gave an extra 10 cents To the Mission and Service Fund Every day for a year.

That’s just ten pennies

That would mean that each member would give an extra $36.50 a year to the Mission and Service Fund.

That’s about the cost of one tank of gas per year.

If all 40,000 plus members of Montreal and Ottawa Conference gave an extra dime a day to the Mission and Service Fund

Then we, in Montreal and Ottawa Conference, would collect an extra $1,400,000 every year.

Remember: We are not asking you to break the bank. We are asking you to use the power of one dime a day.

Join Us.

Together we can do so much. Pledge to give an extra dime every day to the Mission and Service Fund. Thank You!!!!!!!! Thank You!!!!!!!!
