Essential Questions How does religion impact social and political institutions? What happens when different cultures interact with each other? How do societies stabilize in the face of adversity? What can we learn from past societies? How has people’s relationship with their governments changed over time?

Review Activity Instructions You will be given four minutes to complete each section of the review guide. After the time is up, you will have five minutes to ask questions. While I am reviewing the answers you should use a different color writing utensil to add facts and details you may have missed. This will allow you to focus in on the informational that is most critical for you to study tonight!

East meets West The Mongols conquered China in the 13 th century and the Yang dynasty became a “Golden Age” for China. The Mongols created a new capital, Beijing. The merchants of Asia became wealthy trading products along the Silk Road. The Mongol culture was much different from the Chinese, so they ruled but didn’t mix with the Chinese people. Kublai Khan, a great Mongol ruler became friends with the Italian trader and explorer, Marco Polo. Marco Polo was one of many individuals who spread products, ideas and religion along the Silk Road. Unfortunately, their was another item transported from Asia to Europe in the mid-fourteenth century…The Black Death. The plague began in the Gobi Desert and spread through flies on rats. The Plague ended up killing nearly 1/3 of Europe’s population.
