Timeline for PARCC

PARCC Definitions PARCC Assessment System (Ohio will mirror PARCC) Diagnostic Assessment for ELA/Literacy and Mathematics: optional, non- summative, early indicator of student knowledge, flexible administration. Mid-Year Assessment for ELA/Literacy and Mathematics: optional, non-summative, performance-based items and tasks, emphasis on hard-to-measure standards, flexible administration. Speaking and Listening Assessment for ELA/Literacy: required, non- summative, flexible administration Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) for ELA/Literacy and Mathematics: required, summative, administered after approximately after 75% of the school year. End of the Year Assessment (EOY) for ELA/Literacy and Mathematics: required, summative, administered after approximately after 90% of the school year. OHIO IS USING THE TERM EOC (End of Course)

What will count for ODE Performance Based Assessment (PBA) & End of Year (EOY) (Ohio is using the term End of Course (EOC)) will be combined for a student score The diagnostic and mid-year assessments are to facilitate district discussions leading to the PBA and EOY

Listening and Speaking Assessment Will not be ready until the school year Required grades 3-11, available K-12 This assessment is tied into the CCSS (ELA) 2 types of performance activities Locally scored

Listening and Speaking (con’t) 1. Real Time Engagement- performances will entail real time management in the speaking and listening process. Students will listen to a pre-recorded speech and/or media production and speak/respond using spontaneous oral responses. Grades- 3, 5, 7, 9, & 11

Listening and Speaking (con’t) 2. Advanced preparation- performance will entail advance preparation in the speaking and listening process. Students will perform research using authentic & grade-appropriate topics, share their findings in the form of a formal presentation (speaking) and respond spontaneously to audience questions (listening and speaking). Grades- 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12

PARCC assessments PBA ELA- focus on writing effectively when analyzing text Math- applying skills, concepts & understandings to solve multi-steps problems requiring abstract reasoning's & strategic use of tools EOY (Ohio EOC) ELA- reading comprehension Math- demonstrate further conceptual understanding of the major content along with demonstrating mathematical fluency, when applicable to grade

Proposed State-Developed Assessments Science Grades 5, 8 (Grade level NOT grade band) High School End of Course (2) Social Studies Grades 4, 6 High School End of Course (2) Operational school year Ohio’s Next Generation Assessments

Comparison of Testing Times- OAA, OGT/PARCC

Amount of time for PARCC There will be 2- 4 week testing period (max of 20 days per period) PARCC suggests one session per day per kid. PBA- 3 sections in ELA and 2 in math (gr 3-11) EOY- 2 sections in ELA and math (gr 3-11)
