#1 THE THEME OF THE ACADEMY SHOULD BE BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY AN ACTIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE SHOULD BE DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF FACILITIES AND CURRICULUM PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MUST BE PROVIDED FOR THE ADVISORY COUNCIL

#3 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONTINUOUS, RELEVANT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IS CRUCIAL TO THE PROLONGED MAINTENANCE OF AN ACADEMY PROGRAM

Training for the Director and the Academy Teams (Use Professional Academy Organizations where possible) Teacher In-Services:  Project-Based Learning  Differienated Instruction  Use of Advisory Council  Curriculum Development  Scheduling  Budgets

#4 CAREER PATHWAYS SHOULD BE DESIGNED FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS IN THE SCHOOL SHOULD BE BASED ON HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND SPECIFIED COURSES SHOULD PROVIDE TRANSITION FROM ONE SCHOOL TO THE NEXT

#5 CURRICULUM SHOULD HAVE COHORT SCHEDULING SHOULD ENTAIL TEAM TEACHING SHOULD INCLUDE PROJECT BASED LEARNING SHOULD PROVIDE INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGY

#6 FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING PROCESS SCHEDULING FORMAT SHOULD ALLOW EASY ACCESS TO ACADEMY COURSES, AS WELL AS OTHER PERTINENT COURSES

#7 COMPREHENSIVE GUIDANCE PLAN WITH EMPHASIS ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT GUIDANCE COUNSELORS ARE A VITAL PART OF A SUCCESSFUL ACADEMY PROGRAM TEACHER AS ADVISOR LAePORTAL

#8 OFFICIAL ENROLLMENT PROCESS THE MAIN GOAL OF THIS PROCESS IS NOT TO KEEP STUDENTS OUT BUT RATHER SETTING HIGH EXPECTATIONS STUDENT/PARENT INTERVIEWS & ORIENTATION ARE ENCOURAGED APPLICATION PROCESS SHOULD BE CENTRALIZED

#9 EXTERNAL CURRICULUM INTEGRATION POST-SECONDARY ARTICULATION AND INSTRUCTION ARE CRITICAL BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY INTEGRATION ARE VITAL (JOB SHADOWING, INTERNSHIPS, MENTORS, GUEST SPEAKERS)
