DANCE LITERA CY BY MELANIA FERNÁNDEZ

CONTENT LINK RECOMMEND IT? USEFUL?ANALYSIS KEYWORDS/SOURC E National Dance Education Organization Yes This link is very useful because it presents an online forum, where dance teachers from all over the country share their opinions about different topics. In this case, they discuss dance literacy. For example, one of the contributors presents some language literacy skills: Using and understanding dance vocabulary and terminology. Understanding literature of dance: history. Reading and writing dance symbols. This is an example of how to use technology in the development of literacy. I am a member of NDEO Public School of North Carolina Yes This page is important because it makes a connection between literacy and arts education. It includes elements that English Language and Arts have in common: Interpreting symbol system. Gaining competency through practice and repetition. Studying a variety of genres. Reflecting on societies and cultures. Composing, writing and creating for different purposes. Supporting various levels of meaning-personal interpretation, connection to own experience, and connection to past events. Expressing or evoking feelings and emotions. It also provides examples of reading and writing activities for an art class. This information is important in order to advocate dance in the curriculum of public schools. CONTENT LINK RECOMMEND IT? USEFUL?ANALYSIS KEYWORDS/SOURC E Arts Education at the NYC Department of Education Yes This link is very useful because it presents dance benchmarks that must be followed by schools, in order to standardize a well-rounded curriculum. It provides “developing dance literary” benchmark for 2 nd grade, 5 th grade, and 12 th grade,. For example: Through critical analysis and comparison, students gain oral, written, and practical fluency in dance styles and concepts, incorporating their understanding into their work as emerging choreographers and performers. I have used this webpage for previous projects. Mark Morris Group Yes This page is important because it presents an excellent example of how private studios offer outreach literacy programs for public schools. The dance teachers work with the school teachers in order to include the subject studied, like English, math, and social studies. Dance Literacy in Google Chrome Dance Literacy Games Yes If you are a dance teacher, this website is very useful. It provides all kinds of games that a teacher can use during a lesson, for different levels. The games enhance the development of participation, problem-solving and catalytic action.
