Eduphoria without tears!!! ESC 17 February 26, 2015 Kristy Kostelich, Principal Lori Alexander, Assistant Principal

A Little About Us…  Denver City is located about 75 miles southwest of Lubbock.  Kelley Elementary is a campus with 363 students of which 85 students (23%) are identified bilingual and 54% are Economically Disadvantaged.  Eduphoria makes life easier!!!

Framing the Presentation  I Have to Write Lesson Plans, Too???  How DCISD implemented Forethought and Workshop to support the T-TESS  Improving Our Campus…One CIP at a Time!!!  How to create the Campus Improvement Plan in Eduphoria  So Many Reports…So Little Time!!!  How we pull Aware data and use that data to drive instruction

I Have to Write Lesson Plans, Too???  Lesson planning just got simpler with Forethought!!!  As a T-TESS pilot school, we had to find a way to help our staff in thoughtful and purposeful lesson planning without sending teachers over the edge!  One of the components of the T-TESS is the Planning Domain.

I Have to Write Lesson Plans, Too???  The need for consistency across the district led administrators to decide that lesson plans would be entered into Forethought.  We decided that our staff would begin with a “paper copy” of the lesson plan template created by Central Office. The paper copy was used for two weeks to familiarize our staff with our created template.

In the Beginning…  For two weeks, teachers wrote their lesson plans and submitted to the principal.  Then…

The Next Step…  On September 8 th, all lesson plans were to be entered into Forethought.  We had teachers work in Forethought for three weeks and asked them to write down any questions or concerns that they had.

Then…  On September 29 th, we had our ESC consultants, Emily, Shauna, and Jennie come to our district to meet with staff during planning periods. They were able to fill in the missing pieces and provide the support our staff needed in Forethought.  This approach made the transition very smooth for our staff.

Let’s Look…  If you will open Eduphoria and go to Forethought, we will give you about 7 minutes to navigate.

The Campus Improvement Plan  Prepare to invest some time at the beginning, but the end product is excellent.  I did learn a few things through trial and error!  Where does this stuff fit???

Things I Learned Along the Way…  One of the first things I discovered is Google Chrome is a necessity when building and viewing the CIP.  Internet Explorer as the browser will not allow you to scroll.  Word of Advice: I would check to see if Internet Explorer has become an option before going too far in the process.

The CIP  Take about 5 minutes to look at the CIP in Aware.

“Data Don’t Lie!!!”

Your Data Story…  Each time we administer a benchmark or receive STAAR results, like all of you, our grade levels hold a PLC to discuss the data and to make instructional decisions.  Data disaggregation = improved instruction

How Do I Pull All That Data?  You’re just a click away, so your mouse do the work!!!

The Data PLC  For the PLC, our staff asks that we pull the following Campus Data from Aware:  Student Scores  Student Reporting Category Breakdown  Student Learning Standard Breakdown  Student Individual Responses

The Data PLC  Then we begin digging into Individual Student Data:  Student Scores  Student Reporting Category  Student Learning Standard Breakdown  Individual Teacher Results

The Data PLC  Still more data!!!  Incorrect Response Report  Lead4Ward Heat Map  Lead4Ward Quintile Analysis Report

Armed with Data…  We are ready to go to work!!!  We begin with individual cards for each student which are sorted into three pocket charts…Level 3, Met Standards, Did Not Meet Standards…by percentages.  Each card identifies the number of Student Groups the child fits into based on Snapshot.  Each card also indicates Student Growth for Index 2.  I’m more than a score!”

The Data Cards…

“The Shower Curtain” Meeting…

The Discussion…  Using Aware Data and the Shower Curtain, we now engage in our PLC discussion:  Overall results  Areas of Strength  Student Group Comparisons  ELL results  SWD results  Economically Disadvantaged results  Males and Females  Student Growth  Heat Maps  Quintiles  SEs Stumpers and Ideas  Cross-Curricular Ideas for Addressing the SEs  Student Learning Reports (Lead4Ward)  Accelerated Instruction Plans  Teacher comparison to overall results

Breaking It Down!!!
