The Road to Civil War and the Civil War 4/4 – 4/12

Warm-up 4/4 and 4/7 What are some words or phrases that you have heard friends, older family members, or teachers use that is unfamiliar to words you normally use? List 3 and what they mean. Stay away from swear words. – Ex: Pop = Soda Why would we need to know words that are used in different areas of the country? Homework: Civil War Leaders Booklets (34pts), Road to Civil War Notes- test will be one these.

Station Expectations Students will not move unless asked by Ms. Farley; assignments move. There is no talking outside of the teacher’s group. All students MUST be connected via Smart Sync. If you have a question, raise your hand and wait quietly, we will get to you ASAP. You will have 30 minutes at each group.

Warm-up for 4/9 and 4/10 Prior to the Civil War, many people did not speak out against slavery, but were against it. Why do you think they would NOT speak out against slavery? Why should they have spoken out? Must answer in 4-5 sentences.

Today we will ….. Expand our critical thinking skills in written expression. Identify key vocabulary terms. Investigate the Major Battles of the Civil War and answer: “How did the South lose the war?” and “How would the United States look today if the South had won the war? Homework: Major Battles Playing Cards, and The American Civil War Readworks Reading Guide Extra Credit will be available over Spring Break: Create our own Slave Spiritual/Rap

4/11 Warm-up: Achieve Log-on to MissionUS.org. Please complete the packet that you were given last class as your continue your journey. If you finish before the timer goes off, do Achieve. I will set a timer for 35 minutes when every one is logged on. Bathroom break afterwards

Each class will be responsible for a different section. This will be displayed in the hallway as will any spirituals that students complete for Extra Credit, and Civil War booklets, and Notes.

What is your class responsible for? Core 1B- Label Major Battle fields from NC to GA. DO remember to label the path of Sherman’s march. Core 2B- Label the states, major rivers, and mountain ranges. Label Washington, DC (Union Capital) and Richmond, VA (Confederate Capital). Core 3 B- Label the Major Battle fields from VA to PA.

Tuesday and Wednesday Warm-up Achieve “ Half Way Post Test” All students MUST do in class. Take your time. The faster you click and answer, the more questions get asked. Homework: Any and ALL missing work.

America: The Story of Us While we are viewing a clip from the documentary “America: the Story of Us” you will complete the Movie Guide. I will be collecting this for a grade.

Finish the Civil War clip Get out your movie guide out. I will pass back the ones that I had collected last week. We will finish the video clip and review the guide together.

Test Next Class!!! ALL Achieve Readings are due Friday 5/9.

Who was President of the United States at this time? What movie is created in 2001 that identifies this day as a day of importance? – Look the answers up using the textbook, or your laptop.

Treasure Hunt We will complete a treasure hunt using the WWII Interactive map on wwii-interactive wwii-interactive We will be looking specifically at Pearl Harbor, The Manhattan Project, and The Atomic Bomb (Hiroshima).
