Lockheed Martin Presentation BNHS Solar Car Team

Setting the Scene Who we are/introductions Mission statement: “to allow members to gain experience in business and engineering through the construction of a solar car” Goals – Finish the race – Develop engineering and business skills – Build a team at BNHS that will live on forever

The Hunt Winston Solar Car Challenge Starts at the Texas Motor Speedway Ends in Boulder, Colorado Who competes? We are the 44 th high school solar car team in the country

Mechanical Design Three main building materials Steel – too heavy Chromalloy tubing – too difficult to weld Aluminum – 1/3 of the weight of steel Swing Arm Concept of a solar car

Design of the car How long we have been working (September) Race rules mandate several things: Seatbelt, windshield, battery box, crush zone Chalked it out Modeled it with PVC pipe Took it to welder (added triangles) Alibre Cut and welded the Aluminum

Electrical How solar works 4 12v batteries in series 15 amp motor 5 major components of a solar car

Origins of the Team DI and what we learned Gained team work from athletics Education Workshop Welding and Mechanical advisor

Funds 15,000 dollar car planned We have raised $11,600 Need to raise $3,400 before July 16 th Adopt a Cell program – White $100-$499 – Black $500- $999 – Royal $1000+
