3 What is Academic Integrity (AI)? The Center for Academic Integrity (CAI) ( defines academic integrity aswww.academicintegrity.org “a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to five fundamental values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility. From these values flow principles of behavior that enable academic communities to translate ideals to action.”

AI in the Classroom Do not make assumptions about your students’ level of knowledge in AI; talking about AI in advance saves you time later –discuss the importance and relevance of integrity in your work; share a personal story about integrity/honesty –Think about why students cheat (examples)examples 8

Managing AI Cases course instructor has the ultimate responsibility to handle these matters Queen’s handles AI issues within Faculty/School-based regulations and policies become familiar with the AI procedures used in the Faculty/School in which the course is offered distinction between “finding” and “sanction” 12

Managing AI Cases students may appeal the instructor’s finding – in this case, the student’s home Faculty/School will hear the appeal with input from the instructor in complex cases, matter can be referred to Associate Dean 13
