 Background Information  Overview of “It’s My Plan!”  Lessons  Resource and Help Menu  Support Materials This PowerPoint will teach you about the first training in PEPNet’s iTransition, Career Interests and Education Choices: It’s My Plan!

Background Information

iTransition is a free online training available at

The iTransition curriculum has four trainings that can be completed in any order.

iTransition Trainings:  Career Interests and Education Choices: It’s My Plan!  First Year College Success: Be the One!  Essential Skills for College Living: It’s My Life!  eFolio: My Online Portfolio!

An Overview of “It’s My Plan!”

Target Audience  Students ages 14 and older, including current college students  Especially useful for students just beginning to explore career options Description Lessons were developed to help students:  Know themselves better (skills, interests, abilities, personality traits)  Determine a career direction  Explore options for postsecondary education  Develop a plan for applying to a postsecondary program

Signed video clips are an extra feature in this training.

Buttons to help navigate through the training, including a link to Resources and Help menus

The “bookmarking” feature allows students to enter the training where they left off.

At the end of each lesson, students will receive a summary report. Report

Lesson Overviews

There are four lessons in this training:

Lesson 1: Getting to Know Yourself Activities guide students to discover more about their... Hearing Level Communication Interests Abilities Academic Skills Learning Style Personality

Students answer a series of questions to determine their preferred learning style.

Students assess their personality traits and later learn how they may relate to a career interest.

Lesson 2: Determining a Career Direction Explore how interest assessments can help you find a career direction. Identify your top three interest profiles. Identify career clusters based on your profile. Select a Plan of Study to help with postsecondary options based on your career interest.

Activity: Creating your Interest Profile

Activity answers will lead to these results:

Plans of Study based on a Student’s Interest Profile... Each HS Plan of Study contains: recommended high school coursework training programs and majors at postsecondary schools work-based and short-term training options.

Lesson 3: Choosing a Postsecondary Program Students will learn about: 1.Five types of postsecondary education choices 2.Selecting the right school based on a student’s preferences and needs

1.On-the-Job Training 2.Private Career School 3.Vocational/ Technical School 4.Community College 5.4-Year College/ University Five Types of Postsecondary Education Choices

Students use these factors to help them select the right postsecondary school for their needs.

Lesson 4: Planning & Applying to Your Postsecondary Option. In this lesson, students will: 1.Define the steps required to apply to a postsecondary program. 2.Learn about the different kinds of tests used for admittance and placement. 3.Identify different sources of financial aid.

High School Plan Students discover what they need to do at each grade level to be ready to go on to postsecondary training after high school.

Out of High School Plan It’s never too late to decide to go back to school! Topics covered in these activities include: Increasing basic skills and obtaining a GED Career counseling Building self-advocacy skills Exploring financial aid options Applying to a postsecondary school out of high school.
